Chris Fearne has resigned as Deputy Prime Minister after charges have been brought against him in the Vitals Healthcare deal.

He has also withdrawn his nomination for European Commissioner.

In a letter to Prime Minister Robert Abela, he said, “I am resigning not because I have any doubts about my innocence, but rather because it’s the right thing to do.”

“I thank you for the opportunity to serve my country. It has been the greatest honour of my life.”

Chris Fearne rigorously denied the accusations against him.
