During a visit to the Malta Business Registry building in Żejtun, Prime Minister Robert Abela met with several entities that operate from this same building including the Business Registry itself. The Registry, or as it is better known as the MBR, was instrumental in introducing important legislative changes that led to a more robust Maltese jurisdiction at an international level.
Prime Minister Robert Abela was shown the archive section by the Chief Executive and Registrar Dr. Geraldine Spiteri Lucas, who explained that the first registrations of companies go back to the sixties.
In the same building, Prime Minister Robert Abela also visited the offices of Gaming Malta. Accompanied by the Chief Executive Ivan Filletti, the Prime Minister met and spoke with several workers coming from different companies in the fields of digital games and esports. They operate from a dedicated space within Gaming Malta, known as Basecamp.
In this space, a company from Liverpool called Draw&Code facilitates research and development in immersive technologies. The opportunities in this field are even offered to Maltese University students in this same space, who are currently studying Video Game Development.
Other emerging technologies were discussed with the management of Tech.mt, with CEO Wayne Grixti explaining how the foundation is assisting a number of local companies to expand far beyond our shores and promote the Maltese technological ecosystem.
Prime Minister noted how the synergy between key entities in the economic field is the basis of a strong ecosystem that is yielding results. This same synergy which together with work in other fields is leading to our country continuing to record economic growth and continuing to enjoy continued prosperity.
In the same building in Żejtun, the Prime Minister also visited Finance Malta, with Chairman George Vella speaking about the entity’s work in the financial services sector. He explained that Finance Malta facilitates collaboration and growth for stakeholders in the industry through various activities and initiatives that all promote Malta as a financial hub.
In the offices of the Tax and Customs Administration of Malta, the MTCA, Commissioner Joseph Caruana spoke about the reform that started in 2023, where what was known as the Commissioner’s Office gave -Taxes, changed to the Tax and Customs Administration of Malta. It was explained that the reform is already bearing fruit as the MTCA is benefiting from investments in technology, investments and an increase in technical people, continuous renewal and modernization of internal processes and even investment in the offices and the -entity buildings.
This commitment is making it easier for individuals and companies to make their payments on time and for the administration itself to collect all the revenue owed to the government.
Dr Abela was accompanied by the Minister for Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects Silvio Schembri and by the Minister for Finance Clyde Caruana.
