INWETTQU FLIMKIEN: Minister for Tourism and Public Cleanliness Clayton Bartolo and Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima announce details pertaining to the extension of scope of the Institute of Tourism Studies (ITS) Vassalli Hall, Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta

The Institute of Tourist Studies (ITS) has received an extension of its academic scope from the Maltese Authority for Advanced and Higher Education (MFHEA). This means that this institution will upgrade its previous self-accreditation status of MQF level 5, to Master’s Degree level (MQF Level 7).

This extension was granted after rigorous External Quality Assurance and Program Audit reports conducted by the MFHEA, through independent and international people. This accreditation reflects ITS’ dedication to meeting strict criteria for academic excellence.

The extension of the scope in which this institution operates is a significant achievement for ITS, validating not only its dedication to providing high quality education but also allowing ITS to expand its academic offerings. With the authorization to self-accredit MQF Level 6 and 7 study programmes, ITS will be equipped to address a diverse range of student needs and the evolving demands of the tourism industry and the hospitality.

These details were announced in a news conference addressed by the Minister for Tourism and Public Cleanliness Clayton Bartolo and the Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima , in the presence of the CEO of the Institute for Tourism Studies Pierre Fenech, the CEO of the Maltese Authority for Advanced and Higher Education Rose Anne Cuschieri, unions and workers within the ITS and the MFHEA.

Minister Clayton Bartolo claimed that this is a clear certificate that our country is really making the leap in quality when it comes to the tourism and hospitality industry. “The significance of the fact that ITS will expand its academic purpose means more educational courses of higher recognition. Above all more opportunities for all those who want to build a career in this industry so important for the economy of our country,” pointed out Minister Clayton Bartolo.

Minister Clifton Grima said, “I am committed to continue our work so that the students in our country have the best education that leads to what is their full development. Therefore with this certification the ITS today has all the necessary tools to see what is happening even at an international level and will be able to create and certify as well as accredit quality programs. In this way it creates quality programs with the best vision that give students the tools and opportunities to be at the forefront both on a local basis but also on an international basis.”
