Psychoeducational Program for the Elderly in Zebbug launched

In an activity held in Zebbug, the Parliamentary Secretary for Active Aging Malcolm Paul Agius Galea announced the launch of a psychoeducation service for the elderly in the same locality. This service, called ‘I get to know myself better’, is intended to help the elderly face more effectively situations they encounter during their lives.

The program, which consists of 8 educational sessions led by a qualified psychotherapist, will focus on strengthening the mental well-being of the elderly. Participants will learn how to recognize and manage emotions, as well as how to communicate and handle difficult situations more effectively.

This service is provided in other locations and it is planned to be extended throughout all centers of active seniority. This service is also provided in clinics, as well as inside the private residence of the elderly with mobility problems. During 2023 approximately 890 sessions were held both in a group and also individually.

Parliamentary Secretary Malcolm Paul Agius Galea expressed the importance of this service. “Today we are launching this new psychoeducation service in Žebbuġ, which is intended to help the elderly face difficult situations during their lives, and offers them tools and strategies to better manage these situations. We look forward so that this service continues to be provided around all centers of active seniority.”

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Zebbuġ, Mark Camilleri, expressed his satisfaction for this initiative. “This program is very interesting, where we are providing a unique opportunity to our seniors to learn and improve their mental well-being”.

The program is open to all interested seniors who wish to participate in these educational sessions. For more information about this program or for details about other services offered by Active Aging and Care in the Community, one can contact the Senior Service Center or visit the official website.
