Minister Ian Borg meets with the Secretary for Foreign Affairs of the United Kingdom, Lord David Cameron

During his visit to London, Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade Ian Borg held another bilateral meeting with the Secretary for Foreign Affairs of the United Kingdom, Lord David Cameron.

An important discussion on the agenda of this meeting was regional and multilateral cooperation, primarily concerning issues related to Ukraine and the conflict between Israel and Hamas. Also discussed was the collaboration between the two countries at the United Nations Security Council and how better coordination could be achieved. The upcoming presidency of Malta in April of this important council was also addressed.

The agenda of this meeting also included discussions on the excellent bilateral relations between the two countries. Both agreed on the need for more strengthening and improvement of this relationship. “We are keen to continue working together to implement the framework of bilateral cooperation between Malta and the United Kingdom that we signed last year. This will further bring our countries closer together for increased cooperation in various sectors, particularly in trade,” said Minister Ian Borg.

During this meeting, Malta’s priorities for the OSCE were also discussed, as well as how both countries can work together on several conflicts in our region.

“Irregular migration is of concern to both governments, both in terms of Mediterranean routes and the challenge of migrants moving from one European country to another. It is essential that we work together to combat this crime and trafficking,” emphasised Minister Ian Borg and Lord David Cameron.

The UK’s Foreign Secretary, Lord David Cameron, commended Malta’s efforts and acknowledged the proactive engagement across numerous multilateral platforms, such as the UN Security Council and the OSCE.

The relationship between the European Union and the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth, and the situation in Libya were also on the agenda of this meeting.
