A new collective agreement that will offer better conditions to the workers of Infrastructure Malta

The employees of Infrastructure Malta will enjoy the benefits of a new collective agreement as after several months of negotiations, Infrastructure Malta and the General Workers Union (GWU) have reached an agreement that will lead to a substantial number of benefits for the employees, including an increase in salaries and better working conditions.

The new collective agreement was signed by the CEO of Infrastructure Malta Ivan Falzon and by the Secretary of the Professionals, Finances and Services Section of the GWU Riccarda Darmanin, and covers the period from 2021 to 2027. Present for this signing was the Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works Chris Bonett, the Permanent Secretary Godwin Mifsud, and the General Secretary of the GWU Josef Bugeja.

Minister Chris Bonett spoke about how this collective agreement is proof of Infrastructure Malta’s commitment to not only strengthen the country’s infrastructure but also protect the welfare of its professionals. “This is a very important collective agreement that shows how much the Government really cares and puts workers at the center so that they can provide quality work for our country.”

The CEO Ivan Falzon said that thanks to the negotiations that took place between the People & Standards Division, the GWU, the ministry and Infrastructure Malta, they led to this agreement. He said that this agreement reflects collective dedication and that it aims to foster a progressive work environment. “Through this agreement we are continuing to put the worker first and we are continuing to emphasize so that every professional has more professional development,” stated Mr. Falzon.

The Secretary of the Professionals, Finances and Services Section of the GWU Riccarda Darmanin explained that with this collective agreement the position of the workers will be improved both financially and in relation to career progressions and measures in favor of the family. “With the help of the workers’ representatives we were able to see some needs there and we addressed them. It is worth saying that as a union, when we sign a Collective Agreement, our work does not stop there, but we continue to work together for the needs of the workers.”
