Malta participates in the first Buildings and Climate Global Forum

The Minister for Justice and Reform of the Construction Sector Jonathan Attard attended the first Buildings and Climate Global Forum, organized in Paris by the French Government and the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) and with the participation of more than 50 countries from around the world.

During the international Forum several different themes were treated including the use of building codes in different countries, the core for more efficient buildings in the use of energy, the decarbonisation of buildings and the financing of buildings ecological for the most sustainable development.

The ministers also discussed and agreed on the Chaillot Declaration. The declaration aims to lead to more international collaboration and commitment from both governments and key stakeholders in the building and construction sector.

Minister Attard emphasized the importance of this Forum on an international level. “While the internationally recognized principles were recalled, it was also emphasized the collective responsibility for the necessary attention in the building and construction sector, which is effectively at the center of the challenges we are facing in our collective efforts to we will be resilient to climate change.”

“Malta looks forward to more international cooperation, while committing to continue strengthening strategic efforts at national level. This is a key priority for the Maltese government,” repeated Minister Attard.

For the Buildings and Climate Global Forum the Minister was also accompanied by the Chief Executive of the Building and Construction Authority Jesmond Muscat and the Chief Officer Antoine Bartolo.
