The Restoration Scheme for the Local Councils and Administrative Centers of Goziz is launched

The Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri launched the Restoration Scheme for Gozitan Local Councils and Administrative Centers.

This scheme allows the Local Councils and Gozitan Administrative Centers to identify and propose restoration of small buildings or other immovable monuments that require preservation. These include among others statues, niches and other historical monuments, as well as other historical structures and sites, which have historical, architectural and artistic value.

“This year it was decided to expand the scheme further in order to reach wider aspects of the distinct Gozitan character. It was for this reason that with this scheme, apart from those elements of the Gozitan urban character, we are also adding the alleys. Another element that is an integral part of the urban fabric of Gozo, especially in the heart of the city or our villages,” stated Minister Camilleri.

This scheme, administered by the Eco-Gozo Directorate within the Ministry for Gozo and Planning will assist these entities to carry out the interventions through a financial grant, up to a maximum of 85% of the related costs with the realization of this project.

In cases where the intervention will be restoration on niches, statues or other historical monuments, the scheme will cover up to a maximum of €15,000. In the case where alleys will be regenerated, where the interventions must meet several criteria including the use of sustainable material that respects the character, as well as measures that protect the environment, the aid will rise to a maximum of €75,000.

“This scheme is another election promise carried out by this Government. This is another confirmation that what we promise we do. This is also a measure that is included in the Strategy for the Regional Development of Gozo,” recalled Minister Camilleri.

Minister Clint Camilleri concluded by encouraging the Gozitan Local Councils to take this opportunity and submit their applications so that they too can be part of this journey with the aim of strengthening, protecting and consolidating the tangible heritage they have left. our fathers.

The scheme is administered and executed by the Eco-Gozo Directorate from the initial planning phase to the protection of the implementation of the proposed project. The selected projects must be carried out during the following time where the maximum allowable implementation is the year 2026.

The Local Councils and Administrative Centers that are eligible for this scheme have until Friday, 3 May 2024 to submit their proposals. For more information you can go to https://gozo.gov.mt/schemes/mgp-scheme-for-gozitan-local-councils/
