Scheme to strengthen the online security of businesses in the country

The Minister for Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects Silvio Schembri launched a scheme to strengthen the security and resilience of businesses in our country by offering specialized knowledge and cybersecurity services. This funding scheme, Cyber Assess, is being carried out in collaboration between the Ministry of Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects, and the National Cyber Security Coordination Center (NCC) under the auspices of – MYTH.

During the launch of the scheme, Minister Silvio Schembri said that today digital technology is a necessary tool for every business. “Just as we make an alarm system at home or at the shop, in the same way we want to see that we have a secure digital infrastructure that protects our businesses from cyber attacks,” said Minister Schembri.

The Minister explained that this scheme is only a link in a larger chain of schemes offered for this purpose. “Last year we launched the Mind the Gap scheme, and the Cyberalt scheme which is co-financed by national funds and the Digital Europe Program will be expanded in the coming weeks.”

The Cyber Assess has a total budget of €150,000 available from the Recovery and Resilience Fund, part of the NextGenerationEU Programme. The primary objective of this scheme is to support Maltese businesses in order to benefit from various services with the aim of strengthening cyber security.

“A measure like this continues to help us continue to advance further in the digital revolution we are living. I remind you that our country has taken giant steps forward in this field, especially in what concerns connectivity and online public services, so much so that we have already reached the goals stipulated in the Digital Decade of the European Union in these two aspects,” concluded Minister Schembri.

The CEO of MITA, Engineer Emanuel Darmanin, said that as the name Cyber Assess indicates, this scheme will offer the opportunity for at least 30 local businesses to be able to examine the systems and their digital infrastructure when it comes to cybersecurity.
