A National Strategy for Education that puts people at its center

“This is an Education Strategy that will transform the education sector because it will put the people at the center, students, educators and parents. In it we are seeing that education will be of quality, through more support and tools for educators as well as for students to reach their full potential”. This is what the Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima said when this morning he started the last series of public consultation meetings on the National Strategy for Education 2024 -2030.

The meetings are being held in the building of the Maltese Council for Arts, Science and Technology, New Town and are addressed to each sector, with the first one being addressed to partners in the educational sector.

Minister Grima said that this strategy is the first one that was not drawn up by any office, but was built from the ground up, with the first consultation meetings taking place with educators, students and parents. This is because every person who reaches their potential in the educational path knows the educators. Therefore the educators were central in designing this strategy. During these months over 200 consultation meetings were held both with all those who touch the educational sector and with the public.

This strategy also combines other strategies made during the past months and therefore looks at the transformation of the sector in a holistic way. A strategy that not only leads to the year 2040, but also beyond it.

During the introduction, before those present also gave their contribution and thoughts on the document, it was emphasized that this sector is a dynamic one and progresses to reflect the emerging needs in an ever-changing world. Therefore this strategy thinks for the future of the children so that they continue to have all the opportunities that help them reach their aspirations and at the same time lead them to the emerging needs. Above all, an education that leads students to reach their maximum potential.

The Permanent Secretary within the Ministry Matthew Vella explained that this was a vast exercise because they believe in dialogue and consultation, while he explained that there is enthusiasm for this strategy to be implemented now. He said that in order to do this, the changes that are needed must be made both with training and with all the help that is needed, so that this sector continues to be strengthened
