On the shores of Gzira, Prime Minister Robert Abela visited a local investment of € 8 million in a new lido.

AquaLuna Lido is a joint project between three businesses that run hotels on the shores of Gżira and Sliema; ST Hotels which is part of Stivala Group of Companies, The Waterfront Hotel Ltd which is part of Mizzi Organization, and The Neu Collective.

With more than a thousand square meters of swimming pool with restaurant, two separate restaurants, a playground for children and another space for outdoor artwork, most of the works on the AquaLuna project were done during the -pandemic.

AquaLuna Lido has served to make the shore of the Island a quality Mediterranean destination with all the compliments of the Maltese climate, the Mediterranean cuisine and the spectacular view of the City and the Port of Marsamxett.

Shareholder investment has seen the maintenance and improvement of public spaces.

In an address he gave as he visited this investment, the Prime Minister Robert Abela described this project as a show of confidence by the private sector to further improve the tourism product of our country.

Referring to encouraging figures for the tourism sector which is expected to have a busy summer, the Prime Minister stressed that we must work harder to not only reach the level in the pre-pandemic tourism sector but to achieve more.

“In this sector we need to overcome the challenge of seasonality by helping tour operators perform well all year round,” said the Prime Minister, who reaffirmed the government’s support for businesses , as happened during the pandemic.

Maria Micallef spoke on behalf of the three investors, explaining that the investment of AquaLuna Lido is significant because the investors have launched an ambitious land reclamation project that has served to increase the tourist infrastructure on the Island.

She said that this opening shows above all that the Maltese tourism industry was resilient in a challenging time of the pandemic and took the opportunity to regenerate itself for this time when the tourism markets are turning the wheel from -new.

She also pointed to the help that the tourism industry has benefited from the government during a pandemic such as the Wage Supplement, tax credits and tax deferral.
