L-Istrina, the annual fund raising marathon in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund, takes place today.
The first edition of Strina was held in 1995 on the initiative of Maria Bugeja, a cancer patient, who offered to shave her hair during a live broadcast on TVM to raise money for people with cancer.
From that humble beginning, L-Istrina has grown into the major fund raiser that it is today, raising millions to help those in need.
Today’s edition will take place at the Marsa sports complex, between noon and midnight, and will be broadcast live on all television channels including TVM.
