A new sectoral agreement has been signed for the Police

Around two thousand members of the Police Force will enjoy better wages and conditions through a new sectoral agreement that was signed between the Government and the representatives of the workers in the Corps.

When at the Academy for Disciplinary Bodies he met with many officers and even recruits, who will also begin to benefit from this agreement, Prime Minister Robert Abela claimed how the investment in the officers of the Police Force is a direct investment in workers who are useful, of service and protagonists in the common good.

The agreement signed, among others in the presence of the Minister for the Interior, Security, Reforms and Equality Byron Camilleri and the Principal Permanent Secretary Tony Sultana, is testimony to the Government’s commitment to invest in human resources of an important pillar in the security of our country, at the heart of the Maltese and Gozitan communities.

The sectoral agreement will mean increases in wages and allowances among other benefits such as faster progress in the scales. The agreement also recognizes that the workers in the Police Force encounter many unpredictable scenarios and therefore the officers will be covered by legal protection in relation to their tasks.

During a discussion with officers of the Corps, Prime Minister Robert Abela heard about the work of the officers and the importance of continuous training while he pointed out that the Government must continue to provide the tools through continuous investment in the Body in favor of maintaining order and wealth in the community.

The representatives of the workers through the two unions, namely the Police Officers Union within the General Workers’ Union and the Malta Police Union, welcomed with satisfaction the sectoral agreement which was signed immediately after the previous one ended and they pointed to the dialogue and respect that was there in the negotiation about the new agreement.

The POU-GWU interpreted the agreement as a positive one because it recognizes the Police Force as a crucial pillar in favor of maintaining order and builds on its predecessor by improving the wages and conditions of all officers.

The MPU said that this is an agreement that will certainly strengthen the present conditions and provide a solid basis for the future.
