Minister Borg participates in the 27th meeting between the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council

“Malta was, still is and will continue to advocate for peace. We believe that the cooperation between the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) can help more to address humanitarian disasters that we are experiencing in the world.” Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade Ian Borg claimed this while he was addressing the 27th Joint Council and Ministerial Meeting between the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council in Oman.

While he was addressing the meeting, Minister Borg continued to emphasise the message that our country delivered to the United Nations Security Council last Saturday regarding the ongoing violence in Israel and Gaza. “Malta categorically and unequivocally condemns the attacks by Hamas which led to the loss of life of many innocent people.”

Minister Borg confirmed how Malta positively welcomes the discussion on humanitarian aid coordination between the EU and the GCC. He said that this is the only viable way forward. He went on to add how the United Nations and its Agencies should have the necessary resources and tools to really address the problem of those who are suffering and said how this can be one of the themes on which there can be effective cooperation between EU and the GCC.

During his visit to Oman, Minister Ian Borg had bilateral meetings with the Minister of Oman, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi, the Minister of Kuwait, Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and the Minister of Bahrain  Abdullatif bin Rashid Alzayani. While current affairs were discussed, an important agenda item was the improvement of bilateral and trade relations with our country.
