During an official visit to Shanghai, China, Minister for the Environment, Energy and Enterprise Miriam Dalli held discussions with Shanghai Electric Power to evaluate different technologies that can help decarbonise the energy sector.
The discussions were held with Lin Hua and Huang Chen, Chairman and CEO of Shanghai Electric Power. Ing, Ryan Fava and Jonathan Cardona, Executive Chairman and CEO of Enemalta, together with Johann Zammit CEO of International Energy Services Centre (IESC) and Joseph Caruana, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry for the Environment, Energy and Enterprise were also involved in these discussions as an Annual General Meeting of Enemalta and a Board meeting of IESC were held in Shanghai. Shanghai Electric Power is a minority shareholder in Enemalta plc and IESC.
Whilst addressing the Annual General Meeting, Minister Dalli emphasised the unwavering support of the Maltese government towards citizens in the face of escalating global prices. She emphasised that the government was equally determined to support businesses and households in the green transition, encouraging cleaner energy and more efficient use of resources.
Both sides agreed on the need to evaluate different types of technologies which can help decarbonise the energy sector in Malta. During its visit to Shanghai, the Maltese delegation visited a number of green projects, including a hydrogen refilling station, a smart energy control centre and a green energy centre.
The Maltese Government is currently focusing its investments on energy with ongoing works in a number of areas, including work to strengthen Malta’s distribution network, the second Malta-Italy subsea-interconnector, grid-scale battery energy storage systems, improved schemes for land-based renewable energy systems and longer-term offshore renewable energy projects.
