Minister Evarist Bartolo in talks with the President of the High Council of the State of Libya, Khaled Al-Mishri

The President of the High Council of the State of Libya, Khaled Al-Mishri, arrived in Malta for talks with Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Evarist Bartolo. The meeting is being held in the spirit of UN Resolution 2510 that calls on neighbouring countries to support the sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and national unity of Libya.

Al-Mishri has been chairing the Libyan High Council of State since 2018, advising the United Nations-recognised Government of National Accord.

During the meeting, Minister Bartolo reiterated his call on all parties to respect and observe the ceasefire agreement, and to continue the development process and set up resilient Libyan state institutions that protect the interests of the citizens in a united Libya and in the hands of Libyans.

Minister Evarist Bartolo added that any peace initiatives should be taken and led in the same direction as the United Nations’ and Berlin process, because any other initiative could cause more harm than good.

In this context, he augured that all ongoing efforts would bear the desired fruit and result in stability and the end of the long-endured suffering of the Libyan people. Minister Bartolo concluded that these were two essential elements for economic recovery and for the Libyan people to benefit from Libya’s vast wealth once again.
