Standards Commissioner says ministers and junior ministers cannot use official activities topromote themselves

Standards Commissioner Judge Emeritus Joseph Azzopardi said that ministers and junior ministers cannot use official activities to promote themselves.

This statement following his investigation into an allegation by Professor Arnold Cassalo that Parliamentary Secretary Alicia Bugeja Said had put her persona logo and name on an invitation to ministry staff to attend a political event. It so happened that the event had been organised as an official team-building activity for ministry employees. This according to the Commissioner did not raise a conflict of interest, however the use of personal image and logo should not have been used.

Parliamentary Secretary Bugeja Said, in a letter to the Commissioner, apologised and said she would not let such happen again.

That response was sufficient for the Standards Commissioner to consider the matter closed.
