A number of people detained by police in recent weeks for being in Malta illegally have been deported, police said in a statement.
Police carried out a number of checks in Hamrun and Marsa on Sunday and detained 23 people found to be in the country illegally.
They were taken to a detention centre to await deportation.
Police said such inspections will continue.
