The Government is determined to strengthen the laws that protect journalists

At Castille, Prime Minister Robert Abela welcomed the Chairman of the Committee of Experts Regarding the Media, Judge Emeritus Michael Mallia, where he received from him a copy of the report prepared by the Committee of Experts in relation to further consultation carried out on the Bills that deal with strengthening the protection and freedom of the media.
These Bills are at the first reading stage in Parliament, pending the extension of the consultation requested by representatives of the Institute of Maltese Journalists (IĘM). The Prime Minister reiterated that the Government is determined to continue with legislative reforms that give high protection to journalism. Among the reforms is the Anti-Slap law, a protection for the journalist who is not stifled by legal actions that result in abusive paralyzing.
Present for the presentation of the report was also the Minister for Justice Jonathan Attard.
