Success for the Gozitan contingent in debut of the Island Games held in Guernsey

The 40 Gozitan athletes who took part in six different disciplines for the first time at the Islands Games in Guernsey, have arrived back in Gozo. In this debut, the Gozitan contingent managed to compete successfully and win four medals.
Lara Calleja who won the first silver medal in shooting and later during the week she won another bronze, Marlon Attard also won gold in shooting while David Borg won a medal of -silver in the 5,000m race in athletics.
The Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri said that this first experience in the International Games of the Islands certainly met its expectations. He also said that, “The result obtained by all the athletes who qualified to represent Gozo in these games fills us with satisfaction, but more than that, it fills us with courage to look forward to more similar competitions”.
He said that in Gozo a large capital investment is being made in the building of the Aquatic and Sports Center as well as there are plans to continue this investment both on other sports projects as well as through help to prepare the athletes for other competitions in -future. Minister Clint Camilleri thanked the athletes who took part in these games, the officials and those involved, while he encouraged more Gozitan athletes to train and prepare themselves so that in the future they too have the chance to represent Gozo in international games.
