Through collaboration with BCRS Malta Ltd, the Silver-T service has now been extended on a national level. This was announced during a news conference by the Minister for Active Aging Jo Etienne Abela.
The Silver-T service provides the facility of free transport to the elderly who are over sixty years old and who need assistance to go and do their work in the community. Since it was launched in 2019 until today, this service has been provided in Gozo and in 26 localities in Malta. Last year a total of 11,759 trips were made.
Through this collaboration between Active Aging and Community Care, BCRS Malta Ltd and the Ministry for the Environment, Energy and Enterprise, help will also be given to the elderly, who have problems with mobility, to take part in the refund scheme on drink containers. It was also explained that BCRS Malta Ltd provided six electric cars that will join the existing fleet so that the Silver T service was extended on a national level, as well as for the elderly to be able to take part in the scheme of ‘ refund of beverage containers.
Minister Abela concluded by saying that this service joins others that encourage and allow the elderly to live a more independent life in the community. The elderly can reserve a place for this service by calling 22788900 to make an appointment at least three days before they need the service.
The service operates from Monday to Friday, from 7:00 in the morning to 2:00 in the afternoon.
