An activity is organized for the public about European funds and other services linked to the EU to celebrate Europe Day Europe Day was celebratedwith an activity for the public in front of the Parliament, in Valletta.
All of Europe, on this day, celebrates the European project that started 73 years ago from a dream of visionaries like Robert Schuman who came together to make peace and unity in the European continent a reality. The activity served for the public to know more about the benefits, opportunities, rights and obligations that our country’s membership in the European Union brings, particularly those linked to European funds and rights and opportunities that citizens of the European Union have.
With the launch of the new package of €2.2 billion in European Union funds for Malta for the period 2021-2027, the public had the opportunity to know more about where these funds will be spent and how different sectors of society can benefit from them in the coming years.
During a news conference held at the beginning of the activity, the Parliamentary Secretary for European Funds Chris Bonett said that, “During this activity we are seeing only a small portion of the opportunities and benefits that the membership of our country in the EU. With these opportunities, it is also good to understand our obligations as citizens and as a nation. As we explained at the launch of the new package of European funds, we want more than ever that together with the government it will be the people who directly shape our vision for Malta. The word together represents the union we must have as a nation, and together we can achieve the vision of this government of a better future for us and for those after us.”
The new CEO of the European Services Agency in Malta, Denise Fiorentino said that the Agency serves as an important tool for our country to get the best opportunities and benefits of membership in the European Union. “Our mission is to make it easier for everyone who wants to apply for the financing of projects with European funds and for those who want assistance during the implementation of the projects,” said Mrs. Fiorentino.
The Head of Communication of the Representation of the European Commission in Malta Mark Vella and the Head of the Office of the European Parliament in Malta Mario Sammut also spoke at the news conference. Officials from 12 entities, which offer services linked to the European Union, were present to give information to the public.
The entities were: European Services in Malta; Europe Direct Valletta; Representation of the European Commission in Malta; the Office of the European Parliament in Malta; the European Union Agency for Asylum; Careers in the EU; European Employment Services (EURES); EU Programs Agency (EUPA); SOLVIT Malta; the European Consumer Centre; Entitlement Unit (Ministry for Health) and MyScholarships (Ministry for Education).
During the event, a program of music and choreography was also staged by students from the School of Visual and Performing Arts, as well as a quiz for students from secondary schools organized by the Office of the European Parliament in Malta.
