B’Kara consolidate second place, Hibs Europe hopes still alive

Birkirkara consolidated second place in the BOV Premiership with a 3-1 win over nearest rivals Gzira Utd.

Alessandro Coppola gave B’Kara the lead just past the half hour when he fired home from a corner.

Midway through the second half Enzo Daniel Cabrera made it 2-0 to B’Kara

Minutes later it was 3-0 from Matteo Fedele’s freekick.

Nikolai Muscat pulled one back in stoppage time for Gzira but by then the game was already settled.

Hibernians kept alive their hopes of European football with a 4-1 win over bottom of the table Pieta Hotspurs. That win lifted Hibs level on points with Gzira in third place.

Vitor de Oliveira Florencio rounded the keeper to put Hibs 1-0 up after a quarter hour. A Jake Grech penalty two minutes later seemed to settle Hibernians but their frailties exposed when Ivin Farrugia found the net for Pieta half-way through the first half.

Joao Vitor de Oliveira restored a two goal cushion for Hibs shortly after the restart and seven minutes from full time, Jake Grech’s close range lob closed out the match for Hibernians. Valuable three points but plenty of work still to be done if they are to clinch a place in European football next season.
