The Minister for the Economy, European Funds and Lands Silvio Schembri was recognized for his work in the field of Gaming by SIGMA.

This recognition, ‘The Outstanding Contribution of the Year Award’, was given to Minister Schembri for his work that made a difference in the gaming sector in our country. In the presentation of the award, Minister Schembri was praised for his work, since he was Parliamentary Secretary responsible for this sector. This is so that in our country there is a climate where this sector continues to grow and evolve, while looking at new technologies and niches that continue to make this sector attractive and innovative.

Minister Silvio Schembri said that “today we have continued to evolve the field of gaming with new economic niches such as video game development and esports. The work started with a strategy published in 2019 and since that day we have seen several companies both local and foreign opening their doors in our country, with the last one being Keyword Studios, a company that employs 11,000 people, which opened a center in our country. Two days ago this company did a recruitment drive in our country and the enthusiasm of the young Maltese who participated was great. In the field of esports, an agreement was also signed with ESL where their tournaments are being held in our country”.

Minister Schembri said that thanks to the work of various entities, including Gaming Malta, we are continuing to attract the best names in these sectors to our country.
