A budget app was launched as part of the Gemma project

A ‘Budget App’ has been launched, whose main objective is to help a person keep track of their spending. Through this app, a person can enter their monthly financial income, and can calculate the sustainable spending that can be done when compared to that income. Eventually this app will help the person plan better financially.

This app was made in collaboration between GEMMA which is a branch within the Ministry for Social Policy and Children’s Rights and the University of Malta, who created this app.

In a news conference the aim behind this new technological tool was explained to strengthen the financial knowledge of every individual, especially teenagers. The app can be downloaded for free on any android mobile, and by the end of this week it will also be accessible for iphones. The app is accessible on the site: https://mobilefinapp.gov.mt/budgetPlanner/frontEnd/.

“Let’s encourage a culture of saving money from a young age. We can easily avoid more complex situations and financial problems later in life. Today is also the international day that commemorates poverty and social exclusion. With more knowledge and awareness we can foster a society that thinks about tomorrow, with sustainable spending. The government will remain committed to reducing poverty and social exclusion, through more measures that will continue to reach our families,” stated Minister Michael Falzon.

The team leader of GEMMA Helena Holland and Joel Azzopardi from the University of Malta spoke about their collaboration, and how such projects are having a positive impact in the socio-educational life of many sectors in society, especially students and young people.
