Agreement between Active Aging and the Local Council of Kirkop

Active Aging and Care in the Community renewed an agreement with the Local Council of Kirkop in order to continue collaborating together to offer the service of an Active Aging Center in Kirkop.

This center provides many activities for the elderly who attend, to have fun and learn together. Among these activities there is line dancing, bingo, going out, physical exercise, educational talks and various projects.

Before this agreement was signed, it was said that this is a testimony of the interest of both parties in the active aging sector and their commitment to provide opportunities for active aging to the elderly residents in Kirkop and in the localities of the surroundings. The content of this agreement identifies the responsibilities of both parties. In fact the local council is providing the hall in the local council building itself which is being used to provide the services of this centre. On the other hand, Active Aging and Care in the Community is responsible for the service provided and for all the activities organized in the centre. The entity is also responsible for the employees who work within this centre.

Meanwhile, it was also explained that through this agreement, transportation will begin to be provided for those elderly people with a lack of mobility who wish to attend this center, so that they too can enjoy this service. The cost of transport will be shared between the local council and Active Aging and Care in the Community. The Minister for Active Aging Jo Etienne Abela who presided over this agreement said, “I feel it is our duty, both personally and also as a Ministry for Active Aging, to improve the lives of our elderly in every way possible , and today’s agreement between the AACC and the Kirkop Local Council clearly helps.”

The CEO of Active Aging and Community Care Renzo Degabriele supported the entity’s commitment to active aging spread across various communities around Malta and Gozo. He stressed the importance of collaboration with various entities and with local councils and encouraged other local councils to come forward so that more projects in favor of the elderly can be done together. The Mayor of Kirkop Terrence Agius said that the local council appreciates this support in favor of the elderly. He explained that the local council has never stopped protecting the welfare of the elderly in Kirkop and intends to continue doing so.
