SeedGreen 2022: Calling youths with innovative and sustainable ideas

Minister for the Environment, Energy and Enterprise Miriam Dalli launches the SeedGreen Programme 2022

As part of the #ClimateOn campaign, the Ministry for the Environment, Energy and Enterprise has launched the second edition of SeedGreen, an entrepreneurial programme targeting 18 to 40-year-olds.

SeedGreen incentivises young entrepreneurs who have solutions and start-up ideas aimed at protecting the environment and target climate change. The programme has been put together by the Ministry, Malta Enterprise, the Junior Chamber International Malta (JCI Malta), and the EIT Climate-KIC Malta Hub at MCAST.

“SeedGreen provides participants with a training opportunity related to the environment, technology and finance. Participants are provided with the tools to develop start-ups offering solutions and sustainable services to the current market. This goes in line with various incentives offered by Malta Enterprise, which assists businesses to operate sustainably,” explained Minister Miriam Dalli.

Local experts from the environment and the business sector assist the participants throughout the training. After the training period, ideas will be evaluated according to the presentations delivered by the participants. The presentations cover concept, business model and project targets.

The winners of the 2021 edition were tal-Kampanjol, EcoWash and PlantB. Tal-Kampanjol developed an agricultural system based on scientific methods to grow fruit and vegetables without the use of pesticides, whilst saving 95% of usual water consumption. Coming in second place, EcoWash developed a dish soap without chemicals that are harmful for the sea and marine life. In third place, PlantB developed an app offering information and ideas on how one can reduce their daily carbon footprint.

Applications for the second edition of the programme open on 24th June 2022 and close on 24th July 2022. Interested participants are encouraged to submit their application on www.seedgreen.org. For more information, one can consult the SeedGreen website or call on 23316229.

Each application should include the applicant’s details, the proposal for their start-up and how this can be implemented, and information on how this start-up will contribute to fighting climate change.
