€400,000 scheme launched for roof insulation and double glazing

The Ministry for the Environment, Energy and Enterprise together with the Regulator for Energy and Water Services (REWS) has launched a €400,000 scheme allowing the public to apply for support to install double or triple-glazed windows and/or roof insulation.

The scheme was announced by Minister Miriam Dalli and Eng. Marjohn Abela. The grant applies for systems for domestic use. This budgetary measure is funded by national funds and operated by REWS.

The scheme allows for the reimbursement of 50% of the eligible cost, up to a maximum of €1,000. The assistance covers retrofitted double or triple glazing and assistance on retrofitted roof insulation.

Following public feedback, the government sought to support existing buildings – such as old townhouses. The scheme is therefore open to residences that already have a roof or apertures that need to be changed.

Minister Miriam Dalli explained how the government is committed to continuing pursuing its vision toward decarbonization.

“We want to reduce emissions from energy sources, including by helping residences become more sustainable. Through such initiatives we are enhancing sustainability and increasing energy efficiency,” said Minister Dalli.

Eligible applicants can apply for a grant through the form available on the website of the Regulator for Energy and Water Services (www.rews.org.mt). Applications can be submitted from 16 June 2022 until the end of the year 2022.
