12 local beaches awarded the Blue Flag Award

12 local beaches were awarded the Blue Flag Award. This means that the beaches in question have met criteria set by Nature Trust in terms of regular water quality testing, rescue operations, first aid stations and other services for people with disabilities that ensure that users of the beach are offered excellent service in any circumstance.

The beaches in Malta that have achieved the recognition of the Blue Flag are Fond l-Għadir, San Ġorġ beach, Qawra Point Beach, Buġibba Perched Beach, l-Għadira, Golden Bay, Għajn Tuffieħa, Paradise Bay as also Westin Dragonara Beach Club.

In Gozo, the beaches of Ramla, Hondoq ir-Rummien and Marsalforn also won the Blue Flag.

These details were announced at a press conference by the Minister for Tourism Clayton Bartolo in the presence of the Chief Executive of the Malta Tourism Authority Carlo Micallef and the Chief Executive of Nature Trust Malta Vince Attard.

The Minister pointed out that the protection of Maltese and Gozitan beaches is fundamental to a summer tourism product. “I am convinced that this is a presentation that goes beyond just giving a flag. With this scrutiny we are making another leap to reach our goal of building a country that offers the quality and excellence of tourism at every level, “continued the Minister for Tourism Clayton Bartolo.

The Chief Executive of the Malta Tourism Authority Carlo Micallef mentioned how the excellence in the product that a country offers does not come with a single initiative but must be a living mosaic that will lead to a positive tourist experience from the moment got off the plane or cruise-liner until he got back.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive of Nature Trust Malta Vince Attard stressed the importance of more continuous work to make more beaches and beaches in Malta and Gozo part of the Blue Flag.
