St. Thomas Tower in Marsaskala will be regenerated into a pirates museum

Restoration work is underway on St. Thomas Tower in Marsaskala. This project should lead to this same building serving as a piracy museum – another attraction that will further strengthen the tourist portfolio of the Maltese Islands.

This project is being run by the Malta Tourism Authority. The investment in the regeneration of St. Thomas Tower is close to € 3.2 million with co-financing from European Union funds.

These details were announced during a visit by Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo and European Parliamentary Secretary for European Funds Chris Bonett.

Minister Clayton Bartolo emphasized how the vision for the tourism sector for the next decade includes ongoing work to continue to offer a variety of cultural attractions and opportunities throughout the country.

“Innovation and change for the better in local produce should be the order of the day. This must be the mentality that wants to move us forward to make Malta a center of tourism excellence in the Mediterranean “, continued Minister Bartolo.

He also thanked the Malta Tourism Authority for its commitment to keep our country competitive in the tourism world.

Parliamentary Secretary Chris Bonett said restoration work on St. Thomas’ Tower was being carried out with an investment of € 3.2 million, of which € 2.5 million is European funding from the European Regional Development Fund.
