Minister for Tourism Clayton Bartolo visits ongoing infrastructural works at Ta' Liesse in Valletta

The Malta Tourism Authority has embarked on the restoration and rehabilitation of the Tal-Liesse Hill area in Valletta with a spend of 100,000 euros.

The main intervention involves the restoration of the historic shop facades, along this street, which, historically, was the main route from the Grand Harbour to Valletta. This is yet again part of our commitment as an Authority, and Ministry for Tourism, to continue enhancing our product holistically, as outlined in the Malta Tourism Strategy 2021-2030.

The first restoration works related to the regeneration project at Ta ‘Liesse in Valletta are expected to be finalized next July. The main interventions include the restoration of openings as well as the maintenance of the facades of buildings that have historically served as a commercial starting point from the Grand Harbor to the interior of Valletta.

Once this infrastructure work is completed, the second phase of the project will lead to the introduction of open spaces for families on the same buildings.

These details were announced during a visit to Ta ‘Liesse by the Minister for Tourism Clayton Bartolo, the Chairman of the Malta Tourism Authority Gavin Gulia and the project architect David Zahra.

The minister pointed out that this investment amounting to € 100,000 aims to further strengthen the tourism product in Valletta.

“A project like this is part of the tourism strategy for the next decade. For the Maltese product to remain competitive we need to continue to be proactive and look not only at public maintenance and cleanliness but at continuous regeneration. It is this mentality that should move us forward so that Malta continues to be a center of tourism excellence in the Mediterranean, “stressed the Minister for Tourism Clayton Bartolo.

“Once again it is part of the commitment of the Malta Tourism Authority to improve our tourism product in every way. This area has the potential to be another place of recreation for Maltese and Gozitans and above all a unique attraction for tourists who come to admire the beauty of our country, “concluded the Chairman of the Malta Authority. for Tourism Gavin Gulia.
