President calls for conscientious implementation of politics for the benefit of the people

President of Malta George Vella appealed for politics to be implemented for the benefit of the people. At the launch of the book ‘Kollox Politika? Governanza, Reliġjon, Ekonomija, Amministrazzjoni Pubblika’, by Dr Mario Thomas Vassallo, the President stated that politics do not exist in a vacuum. In his speech, the President referred to the ethical, moral, and conscience issues faced by politicians in the implementation of politics.

The President said that politics is the art of leadership that can be done well and give good results, or it can be done carelessly, or intentionally badly. He stressed on integrity, values, accountability, and transparency in politics.

The President expressed his appreciation at the book, which gathers the views of 25 academics and contributors, all experts in their field, being written in Maltese. This shows that the Maltese language can serve well in different technical fields such as political science.

The President stressed the importance of academics teaching correct politics, but equally as important, that politicians implement politics conscientiously.

The book focuses on, among other things, political history, economic models, sociological perspectives, contributions on Islam and the Church’s social teachings, the renewal of public administration, and governance.
