Big weekend for leaders with Hibernians and Floriana in action

Long time leaders take on Sta Lucia at the Tony Bezzina Stadium this afternoon aiming for maximum points to consolidate their position at the top of the Premier League.

On Sunday second place Floriana face defending champions Hamrun Spartans at Ta’Qali.

Hibs have dropped precious points during the first part of the season, three draws from the last five games showing a glaring gap in their ability to find the net. A fact that will not have been missed on coach Stefano Sanderra. Against neighbours Sta Lucia, he will demand nothing less than a win and three points.

Hamrun were held to a goal-less draw by Birkirkara mid-week. On Sunday they go up against in-form Floriana who are second, four points behind Hibernians.

Both sides know they cannot afford to let the gap to Hibs get any bigger and another draw would not do either any favours. This should be a fiery encounter with three precious points up for grabs. If it ends in stalemate, Hibs will be the big winners.
