Hibernians regained their five point lead in the BOV Premiership with a routine 2-1 win against Balzan at Ta’Qali.
Wilfried Domoraud put them in front on the half hour with a deft touch inside the box, Balzan bounced back shortly afterwards when Paul Fenech raced into the box to fire past Kone.
Just after the restart Jake Grech’s powerful first time volley restored Hib’s lead and that was enough to seal the win.
The game was not without its talking points.
Balzan had a strong shout for a goal with ten minutes play gone when Andre Agius cleared off the line although television replays cast doubt on whether the ball had indeed crossed the line. Goal line technology still not part of the game in Malta.
The win means Hibernians are again five points clear of the chasing pack of Valletta and Birkirkara who play each other next weekend and with games against Gudja Utd and Gzira Utd to come, they have a good opportunity to increase that lead.
