EP November II plenary in Strasbourg: CAP Reform; COP26; rising Covid-19 numbers; orange the world

The European Parliament will be in Strasbourg for the full plenary session next week. There may be a return to the hybrid format with some MEPs speaking in debates from the EP Offices in the Member States due to the rising Covid numbers. More information on this later – the decision is under discussion.

CAP reform is the big legislative file on the agenda,  priority for the EPP and strong opposition by the Greens expressed in the pre-plenary press conference this morning by the EP Spox and the political groups spokespersons.

On the sidelines of the plenary and of interest to Malta next week is the internal EPP vote on its candidates for the presidency of the European Parliament: the two candidates so far are MT MEP Roberta Metsola and Austrian MEP Othmar Karas, both currently vice-presidents of the EP. Nominations are open till Monday. The group will vote on Wednesday evening and results will be made known in the press room on Wednesday after 19.00.

Also on the sidelines of the plenary on Monday evening,  the IMCO (Internal Market and Consumer Affairs) Committee will vote on its position on the Digital Markets Act (DMA) proposal on Monday evening, from 19.00 to 21.00 (agenda).  This is a co-decision legislative procedure (Rapporteur Andreas Schwab (EPP, DE); MT MEP in IMCO is Alex Agius Saliba).

Press conference on this on Tuesday, 23 November 2021, 9.20 CET at the Daphne Caruana Galizia press conference room, (Weiss N-1/201), in Strasbourg; live on Parliament’s webstreaming; and for journalists who want to ask questions, via Interactio at this link: https://broadcaster.interactio.eu/join/66e2-hy1p-1w4u
