Minister within the Office of the Prime Minister Carmelo Abela addresses MCESD meeting-Aula Prima, University of Malta- Valletta-10-11-2021

At a meeting of the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development (MCESD), the social partners met to discuss issues related to the quality of life of our families, with an emphasis on the section of society considered vulnerable. . To this end, a presentation was also made on the 2022 Budget with the theme ‘Malta we want for our Children’ – a budget that included various initiatives to help the most vulnerable.

Among the same social partners will also continue the discussion on the cost of living mechanism for vulnerable families as announced in the budget for next year.

The Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister Carmelo Abela said that this is a discussion of importance from the social aspect, as well as from the competitive aspect of our country. This discussion will affect people who are in the low-income world of work, but also other people who for one reason or another are not working or cannot work.

In his remarks, the minister explained that the cost of living is not created due to decisions being taken locally, so much so that the government is making decisions to alleviate and not increase this burden. In fact, at this time, while other countries, including countries in the European Union, had to raise energy tariffs, in Malta the government kept prices stable.

The minister referred to the social security system in Malta as a strong one and stressed that in the end the country or society shows how much they really care about how to treat the most vulnerable. This government cares and will continue to work so that everyone has all the opportunities they deserve.
