Ambassador Lorenzo Vella in meeting with Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights

Ambassador Vella participated in the exchange of views with the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, Ms Dunja Mijatovic, who focused on three specific issues.

On migration, the Ambassador expressed agreement with the Commissioner’s views on the need to share the responsibility of irregular migration among all member states and on the importance of solidarity with frontline states.

On violence against women, he stated that Malta remains steadfast in upholding the values inscribed in the Istanbul Convention and is committed to implementing GREVIO’s recommendations in this regard.

On the environment, he highlighted the importance of raising more awareness on climate change and the link between the environment and human rights. In his conclusion, he held that the Maltese authorities look forward to welcoming the Commissioner and her team and assisting them throughout their visit to Malta 🇲🇹
