Dementia Care Centre inaugurated in Mtarfa

A Dementia Care Centre has been inaugurated in Mtarfa, which is the first center of its kind in our country and even in Europe, as it will be performing its functions both during the day and at night.

During the inauguration of this centre, which was made with an investment of more than € 75,000, the Minister for the Elderly and Active Aging Michael Farrugia reminded that the opening of the centre is taking place during the a month that is devoted to knowledge about the condition of dementia.

He said that both this centre and another that will open later this year in Ħal Safi, will be the first day / night shelters that will be able to address the problem of sleep disorientation. suffering from it many older people with the condition of dementia.

“By opening this centre, we will be meeting the recommendation of the National Dementia Strategy 2015-2023 by offering a respite centre for people with dementia in the northern part of the island. and provide an overnight care service “, said Minister Michael Farrugia.
