President Joe Biden admitted on Monday that the speed with which the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan happened more quickly than the US government had anticipated.

He stood firm on his decision to withdraw US troops from the country saying “American troops cannot and should not be fighting the war, and dying in a war that Afghan forces are not willing to fight for themselves.”

As America and other Western nations rush to evacuate their nationals from the country he issued a stern warning to the Taliban telling them not to interfere with the US evacuation effort, threatening “devastating force, if necessary”.
