Infrastructure Malta has completed a € 350,000 project to restore and beautify part of the Parapet around St Paul’s Basilica in Victoria. This project was inaugurated by the Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects Ian Borg during a visit to Victoria.

“Infrastructure is not just roads but also such spaces that are part of the heart of every town or village. This is a project where we have seen through which we go even further where we have seized the opportunity to preserve and even restore historical attractions that are part of the heritage left to us by our fathers. That is why we are committed to maintaining our commitment so that day after day we see that people enjoy benefits at various levels as well as seeing that the necessary and appropriate infrastructure is provided “, said Minister Ian Borg.

Works include new paving, decorative lighting and planting of 12 olive and three cypress trees. The agency restored a 19th-century arch and removed the old concrete repairs and rebuilt it entirely with limestone, retaining its original design. A stone cross and other ornaments that formed part of the original arch were reintegrated into the structure.
