Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri visited the works being carried out in Triq l-Imġarr in Nadur where he announced that 80% of the works are now completed. He said that finally this road has also been given the attention it deserves and is being rebuilt after being left in poor condition for many years.
Minister Camilleri explained that this project includes the reconstruction of the road, increased road safety systems to reduce the risk of accidents, the reconstruction of retaining walls and a wall. and other facilities for the necessary services to pass under the road.
Triq l-Imġarr was closed due to major structural damage and was inadequate and dangerous for users. Extensive analyzes and underground tests were carried out which resulted in a clear indication of the physical and structural characteristics of each stratum. Parts of Triq l-Imġarr required the construction of structural reinforced friction piles at a depth of 22 meters and the upper structural columns, beams and reinforced road structure. The use of this type of structure for road construction is completely new to Gozo.
Before the road could be started, all permits were issued, plans were made and completed, geological tests were completed and structural designs were made and completed.
Minister Clint Camilleri reminded that in the meantime also repaired and completed that Triq iż-Żewwieqa which could serve as an alternative street to Triq in-Nadur and Triq Sant’Antnin in Għajnsielem as well.
The Minister thanked the workers who, even in the middle of the summer, are continuing with the works on this road in order to continue to improve security and the Gozitan people will have the roads that suit this island.
