Grape harvesting season opens

The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Animal Rights Anton Refalo, together with the Directorate of Agriculture, officially opened the grape harvesting season during an activity in the Rabat.

In Malta and Gozo there are about 430 hectares of vineyards, most of which are for wine production. These include about 19 vines and 11 wine producers who are all registered with the Directorate of Agriculture. They produce quality wines, including DOK Malta, DOK Gozo and IĠT Gżejjer Maltin. Between them they produce almost over 2 million bottles of amazing wine. The Directorate of Agriculture is responsible for monitoring and certifying the production process.

Minister Refalo said this is an occasion eagerly awaiteed by both farmers and producers. He praised the farmers for their continued work and reminded how much this sector is getting stronger from year to year. Everyone should appreciate all the work involved in production by both farmers and growers, until finally the high quality final product arrives on our table, a product also sought after by tourists visiting our country.
