An investment of € 29,000 in new assessment equipment to enable a disabled person to drive

People with disabilities or people who have a physical disability due to a medical condition, can now make use of new equipment at the Sonia Tanti Center for Independent Living (STILC) in Ħal Far. This service center, run by a Support Agency within the Ministry for Inclusion and Quality of Life, offers various services that are aimed at increasing the independence of people with disabilities and therefore the inclusion of in society.

With an investment of € 29,000, this new device – Driver Test Station – is expected to reach around 150 people a year. This device will be used by various professionals including occupational therapists, who perform specialized assessment tests, so that these people can be issued a report specifying how their vehicle must be equipped with accurate calculations. This is through three different processes that go through: including an assessment of an individual’s health when it comes to controlling the vehicle; reaction time; and how long it takes to respond to a situation and take action on it while driving. These aspects in the assessment process are now possible through this new technological device.
