In the Auberge de Castille, in the presence of the Prime Minister Robert Abela, the Parliamentary Secretary for Sport, Recreation and Voluntary Organizations Clifton Grima, as well as part of the Executive Committee of the Sports Journalists Association , the trophies were awarded to Eightball Pool player Dejan Grech as the winner of the Sportsman of the Year, and international football player Haley Bugeja as the Sportswoman of the Year. This is as the 61st edition of SportMalta Awards National Sports Choices could not be held as usual, in the presence of many athletes, due to the Covid-19.
Prime Minister Robert Abela presented the trophies to the two athletes and said that this honor testifies to the commitment, professionalism, and sacrifice they make on a daily basis. He stressed that they are an example for other children and young people, who through their perseverance and determination are doing honor not only for them but for our country.
For his part, Parliamentary Secretary Clifton Grima said that through this annual event, the successes achieved during the past year will be appreciated.
