On a summer’s day in 1996 England beat Germany to win the World Cup Final.
Since then they have failed to beat Germany at a major tournament.
Tonight they have that chance when the sides meet at Wembley Stadium.
England had a slightly easier route to the knockout stage seeing off Croatia and the Czech Republic to top Group D without conceding a goal.
Germany were within a whisker of exiting the tournament at the group stage until a late equaliser against Hungary saw them through to the last 16.
Can this game rise to the occasion and match the fare that was on display on Monday night. If it does football will truly deserve the tag of the world’s beautiful game.
In tonight’s other match Sweden take on Ukraine.
