Government grant of € 8 million to Hospice Malta for a new palliative care complex

Prime Minister Robert Abela together with the Parliamentary Secretary for Citizenship and Communities Alex Muscat presided over the signing of an agreement whereby the Government of Malta will be providing a grant of € 8 million from the Fund. Social and National Development to Hospice Malta to be able to change a building in Santa Venera into St Michael Hospice Complex.

A complex of its kind in Malta, it will offer centralized palliative care in a top-notch environment. Among others, the project includes a Day Therapy Unit and an Outpatients Clinic. The building will also include an Inpatients Unit from which Hospice Malta will be able to offer a new service in 16 rooms in which patients will be able to receive palliative care and the necessary support surrounded by family and staff. they have walked this difficult walk with them.

At a news conference at the building where the project is being carried out, Prime Minister Robert Abela explained that the value of this project is investing in people.

“The value of what we are supporting is not the stone. Today we continue to invest in people. Everyone knows the physical and emotional burden that palliative care brings. With this project we are trying to alleviate a little by supporting the invaluable work of the Hospice. While the public health system provides an excellent service, this project will change the palliative care in our country from what we know it to today. “
