More than € 107,000 in funding for the Wens Foundation

Parliamentary Secretary for Sport, Recreation and Voluntary Organisations Clifton Grima presents funds to Fondazzjoni Wens as part of the Operational Assistance Scheme

The Wens Foundation voluntary association will benefit from a grant of more than € 107,000 in funds from the Operational Assistance Scheme. This scheme was announced in June 2020 as part of the government’s economic regeneration plan.

This grant is helping the Wens Foundation to alleviate its costs related to workers’ wages and even compensate for the lack of donations it received against the background of the COVID-19 pandemic. Wens Foundation has been operating for the past 31 years.

Parliamentary Secretary Clifton Grima said the government is clearly showing how important voluntary organizations are to the country. He said that through the various initiatives that voluntary organizations take, they contribute to Maltese society.

“Nowadays we have several organizations that employ people who are specialized in various fields, work that complements what the government is doing in the social sector. Thus their recurrent cost is considerable. So through this grant we will help this union to continue to operate and make a difference in people’s lives. “

The parliamentary secretary said that this scheme is the largest direct investment ever made in the voluntary sector, amounting to € 5 million.
