Local company provides more than 100 new innovation ideas every year in packaging for the beauty industry to global clientele

“It is a nation’s pride to see a local company with an international base like Toly, which has been supplying luxury packaging to the beauty industry for more than 50 years, still at the forefront in this sector through innovation,” said the Minister for Research, Innovation and Co-ordination of Post Covid-19 Strategy Owen Bonnici during a visit to the premises.

“Toly’s Concept Design team presents over 100 new packaging innovations every year to their customers across all the categories – cardboard, makeup, skincare, fragrance and new decorations. Here the team brainstorm, sketch, render and create 3d models, all as part of their creative process,” he said.

Minister Bonnici explained that Toly also collaborate annually with both the University and MCAST on students’ projects, whilst displaying their work, empowering students as the fountain of future creativity.

“I feel proud to see such a company’s persistent approach to aim at being the most creative and dynamic company in the beauty industry, allowing for creative ideas to turn into exciting new projects. As Toly believes, and we adhere to this policy too, innovation is the key currency of the future”, said Minister Owen Bonnici.

Toly is the home of a global clientele, such as UK, USA, France, Belgium, Hong Kong and Korea and has plants also in China (Shenzhen) and in South Korea (Bucheon and Ansan), apart from Malta.

“Toly’s purposely built innovation centre is a state-of-the-art facility located in the heart of Toly’s corporate offices. These offices were officially opened in 2015 after an investment of 2.5 million Euro. The innovation centre includes and showcase the trends, the full range of standard packaging across all categories, their technologies, and their own innovation,” said Minister Bonnici.

Toly CEO Andy Gatesy said that: “This dedicated centre is the result of many years of research focused on new packaging and new applicators for the perfume and cosmetic sector. Clients have access to a multitude of models on display, try them, test them, and compare them.”

He said that Toly provides eco-friendly packaging.

Another point worthy of note is the innovation engineering which is an advanced 3D printing and prototyping facilities which gives a wide range of capabilities to help accelerate their development all the way from concepts to pilot tooling.

Within the corporate offices, rooms were restructured to create an in-house production studio, named Toly Studio. There, they have been constantly producing videos to support innovations and applicators.
