Last minute penalty clinches win for Hamrun

Doumbia scores winning penalty

A last minute penalty clinched three precious points for Hamrun in a narrow win against Hibernians.

The top of table clash was always going to be  an edgy affair and that first half lived up to expectations. Both defences were on top which limited chances. The best chance of a breakthrough fell to Hibernians when Degabriele found himself with only the keeper to beat but his weak shot was smothered by Bartolo.
The match burst into life after the break with both teams upping their efforts to find an opening.Hibs were enjoying the better of the action and should have scored when Gilmar did well to get behind Hamrun’s defence only to see his shot across goal finish agonisingly wide.
Just as the game seemed destined for a draw, Hamrun won a penalty in the last minute and Doumia kept his nerve  to beat Cremona and probably send Hamrun on the way to their first Premier title in three decades.
There was time for one last flurry from Hibs with two free kicks in quick succession in extra time but Gilmar’s efforts, thoough close, were not close enough.
A crucial win that lifts Hamrun five points clear of Hibernians and puts them almost beyond reach.
