Repairs to the Enemalta substation in Mellieha have almost been completed after yesterday’s fire

Enemalta engineers and workers worked through the night and during the day after the fire that developed on Tuesday evening at The Avenue Solana Hotel substation in Mellieħa.

During the day, Enemalta engineers and workers dismantled the damaged low voltage panel to make the necessary repairs.
The fire that started shortly after 8pm caused damage to the low voltage panel of the substation but no damage was done to the transformer, switchgear and other important equipment for electricity supply.

As a result, a number of consumers in Mellieha had their electricity supply suspended for some time. Consumers who were connected to the second substation in the same network that suffered no damage, had the supply returned to normal within an hour.

Enemalta has taken immediate steps to restore the supply of electricity as soon as possible to consumers who were affected including consumers who were connected to the damaged substation. Later these consumers will have a brief supply disruption until supply is returned directly from the substation instead of the generator.
